Nestled in the cradle of the valley of the Potomac River in Western Maryland, in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, is the Victorian town of Cumberland. Cumberland is named after the son of British King George II, William Augustus, the Duke of Cumberland. It is built on the site of the old Fort Cumberland, a launch pad for British General Edward Braddock's attack on the French strong-hold of Fort Duquesne (located at present day Pittsburgh) during the French and Indian War.
